Step aside, un-unspec’d utes and say hello to the LDV T60 Traverse, a limited-edition truck that’s all about living life on the edge while still meeting everyday demands. This powerhouse draws inspiration from the adventurous North Island’s 42 Traverse track, seamlessly marrying style, power, and durability – well that’s what the brochure says.

At its core, the T60 Traverse boasts a brawny 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, cranking out 160kW of power and torque of 480Nm. Matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it delivers a robust driving experience whether you’re city-bound or tackling challenging terrain. While its rugged setup, featuring a bullbar, roof-mounted platform, DTM wheels, Titan tray, all-terrain tires, and a TJM snorkel, marks it as a ute that’s not just ready for adventure, it thrives on it.

Aesthetically, the T60 Traverse makes a strong statement with its aggressive design and chrome blackout package. Plus, its two tint accessories and Lustre Protection Film ensure that this ute stays protected against whatever the elements can throw at it. The Titan Tray isn’t just for show either, it’s remarkably light but can handle heavy loads effortlessly, whether you’re hauling work gear or packed for a weekend getaway.

When it comes to handling, the T60 Traverse doesn’t disappoint. Its striking DTM 18” alloy wheels and all-terrain tires are built for superior traction, but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all brawn with no brains. This ute combines rugged capability with practical features like black-tinted windows, deep dish rubber mats, and weather shields. Plus its bonnet protector adds a rugged look while also safeguarding against stones and debris.

Looks-wise, the Traverse is a total head-turner, in fact I got plenty of admiring glances and comments during my test drive. However, it’s not without a few quirks. The powertrain, for instance, can be a bit too eager in ‘power’ mode, making the drive a bit lumpy, and certainly not fun in nose to tail traffic or junction pull outs. I found that turning into ‘Eco’ mode for city driving was better. And while I was at it, the addition of 2WD settled the eager ute further, making it better for urban commutes and is easier on fuel. The other irk for me was the high seating position, it took some getting used to. Rather than feeling integrated into the driving experience, I felt positioned above it, a small trade-off for the commanding view I guess.

Setting those aside, the Traverse has an undeniable star quality about it. With only 150 units available, it offers exclusivity and a sense of uniqueness for the discerning buyer. Safety isn’t compromised either, boasting a 5-star ANCAP rating and it has a hefty 3,000kg towing capacity, ensuring your family and toys travel safely.

There is one last thing we need to bring up and that’s the $69,690 price tag. For sure it reflects its exclusivity and decked-out quality features, but it does nudge it into ‘premium’ or ‘best seller’ ute territory. It’s a conversation worth having when considering its robust performance and standout style.

Ultimately, the LDV T60 Traverse strikes a great balance between power and practicality,  and all wrapped in a limited-edition allure. For those who need a reliable workhorse during the week and an adventurous partner on weekends, this ute is something that sparks conversation wherever it roams.
