The Dorsett Melbourne – Artsy and very hospitable

If vibrant city living wrapped in touches of luxury is what you crave, the Dorsett Melbourne might just be the slice of elegance you’re looking for. Nestled in the heart of Melbourne at 615 Little Lonsdale Street, this hotel is an enticing mix of modern comforts and chic design, making it a standout option among the city’s array of accommodations. I was there thanks to Ford, but even I’d fork out for a stay there.

Let’s start with the location: a dream for travelers. Just a short stroll from the Southern Cross SkyBus and train station, the hotel offers easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment hotspots, not to mention Melbourne’s famed free tram zone that lets you hop around the city without spending a dime. For those flying in or out, proximity to SkyBus makes airport connections straightforward—a boon for tourists and business travelers alike.

Inside, the hotel delivers on design and functionality. With its modern decor, well-maintained facilities, and spacious rooms, it feels like a thoughtfully curated urban escape. The rooms are large and well ‘featured’, luxurious beds, and there are upscale amenities like the indoor heated pool and gym overlooking the shimmering blue water, a design worthy of Instagram moments. It even has a couple of pinball machines, that I may have played with. A particularly charming feature is the eco-conscious initiative where Melbourne’s tap water is encouraged, a nod to sustainability that balances practicality with planet love.

Water pressure is great, complete with a monsoon shower head and my view was of a funky sculpture display, better than inner city traffic that’s for sure.

Dining at Dorsett Melbourne might be where opinions diverge. I only grabbed the breakfast (which was quite the spread) but there are numerous nearby restaurant options too. Service was a stand out. Not only are the staff friendly and professional, but really easy to interact with with a bit of banter and even laid on some free nibbles as we sat at the bar.

All in all, the Dorsett Melbourne doesn’t just offer a stay; it offers an experience. Whether you’re here to shop, sightsee, or celebrate Ford’s 100-years in Aus, this hotel sets itself apart with its location, style, and hospitality. Overall, you’ll want to come back—and really, isn’t that the best review of all?
