Norton 360 Advanced review – Premium Protection and Teckie Travel Assistant

Having just returned from China, I have to admit that the call to review Norton’s 360 Advanced anti-virus product couldn’t have come at a better time. After all, we’ve all heard the stories about business folk connecting to hotel wifi’s and returning with no end of issues.

Anyway, Norton 360 Advanced stands out as a comprehensive cybersecurity solution, designed to shield you (aka me) and your family from today’s complex and evolving digital threats. With its multi-layered protective features and newly introduced AI-powered Genie Scam Protection, Norton 360 Advanced aims to outsmart even the most sophisticated, elusive scams and viruses before they can wreak havoc on your devices.

Now this all sounds very good, but my experience with virus software has mainly been of the ‘free’ kind and the result has verified from simply slowing the PC to frustration levels or having malware introduced by said antivirus company – sigh.

The good news, trusted purveyor Norton, did neither, it was easy to install (I didn’t need to call my IT guy) and it works even better than expected – yippee.

Key Features and Benefits:

Real-Time Threat Protection: Norton 360 Premium actively defends against malware, ransomware, phishing, and hacking attempts, providing real-time detection and neutralization of threats. This ensures your devices stay secure from both established viruses and newly emerging ‘nasties’.

Genie Scam Protection: One of the standout additions to Norton 360 Advanced is Genie, an AI-powered scam assistant. Genie employs advanced algorithms to detect and block convincing, realistic-looking scams in emails, texts, and online interactions—an essential tool in an era of increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks.

Secure VPN: Norton’s VPN allows you to browse the internet anonymously and securely, protecting your data from prying eyes, especially on public Wi-Fi networks.

Dark Web Monitoring: This feature continuously scans the dark web for your personal information, alerting you if key data, like email addresses or financial account details, appear in data breaches or cybercriminal marketplaces.

Password Manager: Secure password management generation, storage, and auto-fill help protect against hacking and credential theft while making it easier to manage complex passwords across multiple sites.

Parental Controls: Norton offers robust parental control features, allowing you to manage your children’s internet activities, set safe boundaries, and guide them as they explore the digital world.

PC Cloud Backup: For Windows users, Norton 360 Premium provides up to 100GB of secure cloud backup, safeguarding vital documents and files from ransomware, hardware failure, or accidental deletion .

According to the literature, Norton 360 Premium is compatible with Windows PCs (including both Intel and ARM chips), Macs, smartphones, and tablets. However, some features—like Norton Cloud Backup and Parental Control—aren’t available on macOS or Windows 10/11 in S mode. So basically, you’re all good.

Pushing that ‘Scan for virus’ button for the first time is a worry, especially since the program seems to take its time crawling through the deep dark areas of my laptop. Finally the result, a clean bill of health for me! It was a relief I have to say.

The ‘Dark Web’ side of its capabilities didn’t interest me, and nor did the parental control, however, the thing that really piqued my interest was the added VPN. Now for those that don’t know, there is a great firewall in China and the likes of Google and YouTube are unusable without a VPN – meaning that you have to add another (potential threat) app to your PC.

Well I can happily report that right now I am back in China, writing this review on my laptop, in a hotel, in the deep regions of Zhengzhou, listening to 80s music on Youtube and Googling like crazy – all safe in the knowledge that Norton has my back – genius.

Pros: Robust multi-device coverage (up to 5 devices with Premium, 10 on some listings). Comprehensive suite: antivirus, web protection, VPN, cloud backup, and parental controls. Strong industry and customer reviews for threat detection.

Cons: Auto-renewal management can apparently be cumbersome, with reports of unexpected charges if not properly canceled. Some users experience slight performance impact, especially on older or less powerful systems. Full feature set is Windows-focused; some features are reduced or unavailable on macOS, iOS, or ARM-based devices.

Final Verdict

Norton 360 Advanced earns its reputation as a leading all-in-one security suite, especially for families and multi-device households seeking broad, reliable protection from the many “hidden virus nasties” lurking online. With the added prowess of Genie Scam Protection, robust malware defenses, VPN, and dedicated support, it delivers strong peace of mind—though users should pay attention to renewal policies and be aware of some feature limitations on non-Windows platforms.
