Maruti Suzuki’s electrifying foray into the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment has been marked by the unveiling of its first electric SUV, the e Vitara. A global model from Suzuki Motor Corporation, the e Vitara is being touted as a game-changer in the electric automobile market. Here’s everything we know so far about this promising EV.

Made in India, for the World
The e Vitara will be exclusively manufactured at Maruti’s Gujarat plant, which has made significant infrastructure upgrades by adding a fourth production line tailored specifically for EVs. While the existing three production lines have an annual capacity of 750,000 units, details regarding the capacity of the fourth are still under wraps. Production is set to begin in the spring of 2025, with sales kicking off shortly after. Significantly, the e Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan and various European markets, making it the second Maruti SUV to be shipped to Japan after the Fronx, and the third Maruti model overall to land in this demanding market.

The Foundation: Heartect-e Platform
Built on the new Heartect-e platform, designed exclusively for BEVs, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara aims to blend safety, innovation, and efficiency. The SUV comes with impressive battery options: a 49kWh pack and a larger 61kWh pack, which offer a claimed range of over 500 km on a single charge, making it a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.
