The highly anticipated, bold and pure Opel Astra has landed on our shores, adding to the new
generation line-up of Opel vehicles available in New Zealand.
Astra is Opel’s multi-award winning next-gen hatchback built in Russelsheim, Germany and will be
available here in both fuel efficient turbo petrol and plug-in hybrid variants, from $49,990.
The Astra SRi (petrol) has arrived and the Astra GSe (plug-in hybrid) is set to arrive by July.
Astra earned itself a 2022 Golden Steering Wheel award alongside its other accolades including:
- Top Gear UK Best Family Hatch of the Year 2022
- German Compact Car of the Year 2023 at the German Car Awards
- Grand Prix at the Automobile Awards 2023 in France.
OPEL NZ commercial manager Noah Robertson says it’s great to be diversifying the range of Opel
vehicles available in New Zealand with the vibrant new Astra.
“The official tagline for Astra ‘it speaks for itself’ couldn’t be more accurate. Astra oozes pure design

Both Astra variants impress with sleek and dynamic lines accentuated by black roof and exterior
trims, dark-tinted rear windows, 18” diamond-cut alloy wheels and of course, the iconic Opel vizor
front face noticeably present on new generation Opel models.
If you opt for the Astra GSe (Grand Sport Electric), sports tuned for maximum performance with a
lower emissions profile, you upgrade to 18 inch gloss black diamond cut alloy wheels and sports
front and rear bumpers.
Astra comes in bold colours of Amber Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Ruby Red, plus the all the expected
neutrals.
Inside, you get the Pure Panel Pro detox experience with a 10 inch configurable digital instrument
panel and 10 inch central touchscreen. There’s also ‘Proximity’ keyless access and a start push
button, black Alcantara and leatherette trim (the GSe has sports black Alcantara trim with integrated
front headrests) heated steering wheel and AGR front seats, 10-way adjustable electric driver seat
with memory function and interior ambient lighting.
Both 8-speed automatic – the 1.2L turbo Petrol (96kW/130hp) Astra SRi and 1.6L turbo plug-in hybrid
(165kW/225hp) GSe – have all the power you’d ever need in a zippy hatchback.
Key features include best-in-class smart and powerful lighting thanks to IntelliLux adaptive LED®
Pixel headlights with high beam assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Positioning
Assist (semi-autonomous), advanced Active Safety Brake and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, long range
blind spot monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors with a new 360 HD view camera.
The GSe PHEV has 60km (WLTP) of electric range and comes with additional sport suspensions and
steering.
