VinFast Makes a Bold Move into India’s Electric Vehicle Market
Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, VinFast, has officially announced its entry into the Indian market, unveiling two premium electric SUVs at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This marks a significant expansion for the Nasdaq-listed automaker, demonstrating its commitment to global EV adoption. The company introduced the VF 7 and VF 6 models, specifically tailored for the Indian market, showcasing their focus on modern product offerings.
The VinFast VF 7 is a modern, sporty, 5-passenger electric SUV. Designed with a futuristic aesthetic, it combines a dynamic exterior with a spacious, tech-focused interior. Key features include luxurious vegan leather seats, generous legroom in the front and rear, and a panoramic glass roof. The VF 7 is available in two versions: the Eco and the Plus. The Eco boasts 201 hp and an estimated range of 280 miles, while the Plus offers 348 hp and an estimated range of 268 miles (WLTP est.). Both versions feature a 75.3 kWh battery. A 15-inch infotainment screen and a head-up display (HUD) enhance the driving experience. Advanced driver-assistance systems, including Highway Assist (Level 2), are also available. Exterior highlights include signature LED light bars, flush door handles, and a bold front and rear design.

The VF 6 is a compact, 5-passenger electric SUV. It features vegan leather seats, generous legroom, and a panoramic glass roof. The VF 6 comes in two versions: the Eco and the Plus. The Eco has a 59.6 kWh battery, 174 hp, and an estimated range of 248 miles, while the Plus has the same battery size, 201 hp, and an estimated range of 237 miles (WLTP est.). Both versions offer a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a head-up display (HUD), and advanced driver-assistance systems including Highway Assist (Level 2). Its futuristic design includes signature LED light bars and a bold front and rear aesthetic.
VinFast plans to launch these two electric SUVs in India later this year. The company is investing USD 500 million in a manufacturing plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, expected to be operational in the second half of 2025. This facility will not only serve the Indian market but also potentially export EVs to the Middle East and Africa. VinFast is currently in talks with the Indian government to secure incentives under the new EV policy.
VinFast’s debut at the Expo, alongside other global startups and EV makers like China’s BYD Motor, created considerable excitement. Their arrival signifies the growing interest in India’s burgeoning EV market and the increasing competition within the sector. This expansion represents a bold strategic move by VinFast, aiming to capitalize on the immense growth potential of the Indian EV market.
