Just when you thought the premium compact SUV segment couldn’t get any more… premium or compact, Audi has decided to bless us with a fresh iteration of a familiar friend. Yes, the Audi Q3, a vehicle that has apparently been multiplying like caffeinated rabbits with over two million sold since its 2011 debut, is gearing up for its third-generation reveal on June 16th.
Gernot Döllner, the big cheese (CEO, that is) at AUDI AG, didn’t mince his words, calling the Q3 “one of our best-selling models” and highlighting its “high status in our product portfolio”. No pressure then, for the new kid on the block. This isn’t just a new car; it’s the renewal of “an important model family as part of our product initiative”. One imagines the Q3 family reunions are getting rather large.
So, what can we expect from this latest scion of the Q3 dynasty? Audi promises it “sets standards in several respects”. Its exterior will apparently “exude confidence and evoke emotion,” which is always a good start – nobody wants an insecure car that makes you feel a bit meh. Furthermore, “numerous innovative features make it the ideal digital companion”. In an era where your toaster probably has Wi-Fi and a strong opinion on your bread choice, a car being a “digital companion” is less a feature and more a baseline expectation, but we’re eager to see Audi’s spin. Will it offer sage life advice or just expertly navigate us to the nearest purveyor of artisanal coffee? Only time, and June 16th, will tell.
This Q3 refresh isn’t happening in a vacuum. Audi is reportedly “in the middle of its most ambitious new model initiative,” a whirlwind of activity that involves sprucing up its entire lineup with both new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) charmers. The UK market, a “core market” for the brand, snapped up 122,431 Audis in 2024, with a respectable 20 percent of those being electric. Looking ahead, Audi has ambitious plans to stick a BEV in “every core segment of its model portfolio” by 2027, so expect more sparks to fly, quite literally.
As the premium compact SUV segment continues to be a fiercely contested battlefield, with rivals constantly upping the ante in tech, luxury, and mildly aggressive front grille designs, the new Q3 has its work cut out . But with over two million sold already, it’s clear the Q3 has a knack for finding driveways to call home. Mark your calendars for June 16th – the third chapter is about to be unveiled, and if the PR team’s extensive contact list is anything to go by, they’re ready for the world to take notice.
