Officially announced as a concept earlier in the year, Renault has opened orders for the 5 Turbo 3E. The “mini supercar” is a reimagined fully electric R5 Turbo for the 21st century. A price has been set at 155,000 Euros excluding options, accessories and personalisation with production currently limited to 1980 units.

To secure one of the 1980 numbered vehicles, a prospective buyer must complete an enquiry form and then upon contact, visit their local Renault dealership to place a 50,000 Euro deposit payment. Once the production car is confirmed for purchase, they will be offered the choice of production numbers. The reason the deposit is so high is because these sums as well as contributions from appointed dealers will go into financing the development of the 5 Turbo 3E. It’s worth noting that the car is only being offered for sale in Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Australia.

From here on, customers will be contacted in 2026 to select personalisation options. As part of the process, they will meet with Renault designers to create unique liveries for their cars. Seats, door panels, dashboards and more can be tailored to suit. Then in early 2027, the same customers will be able to finalise their choices and collect their cars during the course of the year.

R5 Turbo 3E will create a performance hatch category of its own

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E produces 540hp, packaged into a hatchback that is 4.08m long, 2.03m wide and 1.38m tall. Peak torque is rated at 4,800Nm with a claimed 0-100 time of 3.5s. The battery is a 70kWhr unit and will provide a WLTP range of 400km. Alpine have taken the lead on the development of Renault’s most powerful road car ever and the 5 Turbo 3E will be built at the A-arrow brand’s plant in Dieppe.

Those going to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2025, make sure to keep an eye out as the the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be on display there!

Homologation is yet to be confirmed but we among many others are rooting for Renault who have been on a roll of late with the 5, 4, new Twingo and the Alpine A290 of course.
