Mattel’s iconic toy, the classic Magic 8 Ball is set to star in its own live action show. Celebrating its 75th year on sale and with more than a million units shifted annually, the toy has become an icon of pop culture. Mattel describe it as a “symbol of curiosity, fate and fun.” Traits that have seen it referenced in films, shows, music videos and written literature.
Such is the “enigmatic mystique” of the Magic 8 Ball Mattel Studios are bringing its unique characteristics to life, on screen. M. Night Shyamalan (Glass, Split, Signs) has been appointed as director with Brad Fulchuk (Glee, Pose) appointed as writer. Both individuals will also serve as co-creators and co-showrunners as they use their imaginations to create a psychologically intense, supernatural drama centered around the Magic 8 Ball.
