Hyundai Unleashes The IONIQ 6 N

Just when we thought the electric performance scene couldn’t get any more exciting, Hyundai has pulled the covers off its second high-performance EV, the IONIQ 6 N, at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Following the globally praised, boxy-but-brilliant IONIQ 5 N, this new, aerodynamically slick sedan proves Hyundai isn’t just a one-hit wonder in the world of electrifying speed. It’s a clear statement that the N division’s journey into high-performance electrification is hitting its stride.

The IONIQ 6 N is built on the same core principles that made its sibling a runaway success: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. This philosophy aims to deliver a car that can thrill you on a track day and still be refined enough for the daily commute—a balance many strive for but few achieve.

Not Just Straight-Line Speed

While the acceleration figures are impressive, Hyundai N has focused heavily on making the IONIQ 6 N a master of the corners. The chassis has been reengineered and features fully redesigned suspension geometry and a lowered roll centre for greater stability and cornering grip. This is complemented by new stroke-sensing Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) dampers, which allow for a wide range of adjustments to suit everything from a grocery run to a hot lap. Aerodynamics play a crucial role, with motorsport-inspired elements like a distinctive swan neck rear wing and widened fenders that aren’t just for show; they enhance stability and downforce during high-speed cornering. To keep performance consistent, the car features a revamped N Battery management system engineered for optimal temperature control across various track scenarios, from drag racing to endurance runs.

An Immersive Cockpit Experience

Hyundai continues to lead the charge in making EVs engaging for the enthusiast driver. The IONIQ 6 N features an improved N e-Shift system that simulates the jolts and responsiveness of a dual-clutch transmission, now fully integrated with features like N Grin Boost and N Drift Optimizer. This sensory experience is amplified by the N Ambient Shift Light, which provides visual cues for optimal shift points. The sound is just as customisable, with the N Active Sound + system offering modes like the motorsport-inspired ‘Ignition,’ the heritage EV sound ‘Evolution,’ and the futuristic ‘Lightspeed’. For those who love data, the N Track Manager allows drivers to create custom tracks and analyse their performance with real-time ghost car visuals and detailed lap time analysis.
