Škoda has just pulled the satin off its second-generation Kodiaq, promising a significant leap forward in size, sustainability, and tech. This isn’t just a refresh; it’s a full-blown overhaul of the Czech brand’s flagship SUV, boasting a bolder design language, cutting-edge features, and a renewed focus on eco-conscious motoring.
The Kodiaq’s exterior has received a chiseled makeover, incorporating the first glimpses of Škoda’s “Modern Solid” design philosophy. Think squared-off wheel arches, a prominent new Škoda logo, and a rugged “Unique Dark Chrome” finish. But the real head-turners are the next-gen LED Matrix beam headlights (standard on the RS variant, arriving later in 2025), packing 50% more light segments and a distinctive “Flying Arrow” daytime running light signature. A sleek horizontal light strip across the front grille adds a touch of futuristic flair. And at the rear, interconnected LED tail lights with animated indicators (also standard on the RS) complete the high-tech aesthetic.
Inside, the Kodiaq has undergone a complete transformation. A free-standing infotainment display, up to a whopping 13 inches, takes center stage. Below it sit the innovative Škoda Smart Dials – three rotary controls with integrated digital displays, offering intuitive access to various vehicle functions. Another first for the Kodiaq is the optional head-up display, supplementing the revamped 10-inch Virtual Cockpit. Practicality hasn’t been forgotten either, with the gear selector now residing on the steering column, freeing up valuable center console space. Need to charge your devices? The Kodiaq has you covered, with four 45W USB-C ports and a new Phone Box capable of wirelessly charging two smartphones simultaneously.
Škoda is also making strides in sustainability. Recycled textiles feature throughout the cabin, while the ecoSuite Design Selection (standard on the Selection TDI 142kW) boasts sustainably tanned leather. This eco-focus extends under the hood, with the global powertrain lineup now including a plug-in hybrid with over 100km of electric range and a mild-hybrid option. Kiwi drivers will initially have a choice of two powertrains, ranging from 110kW to 142kW, both paired with DSG automatic transmissions. All-wheel drive comes standard on the more powerful TSI engines (142kW and 195kW).
Growing over six centimetres in length, the new Kodiaq offers even more room for up to seven passengers and their luggage. Clever aerodynamic tweaks, including active cooling shutters, contribute to a slippery cd value of 0.282. Škoda CEO Klaus Zellmer hails the new Kodiaq as a significant step forward, building on the model’s successful legacy with increased space, features, and efficiency.
