We attended the global reveal of the Jaecoo J5 in China

In a vibrant global event showcasing innovation and design across the full range of Chery vehicles, the international car brand Omoda Jaecoo unveiled its much-anticipated Jaecoo J5, building on the momentum of the successful Jaecoo J7 launch. Although the Jaecoo J5’s entry into the New Zealand market remains unconfirmed, the company has highlighted plans for its rollout in select international markets by 2025.

At the unveiling, Omoda Jaecoo generated excitement by teasing several additional models under consideration for New Zealand, including the Omoda C5, Omoda C7, Omoda C9, and the Jaecoo J8. These upcoming vehicles promise a range of powertrain options, encompassing pure internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles.

Among the standout features of the Jaecoo J5, the design elements echo those of the acclaimed Jaecoo J7. The vehicle takes pride in its waterfall front grille, a signature that enhances its aesthetic appeal.

For pet owners, the J5 introduces a number of pet-friendly features, including extended seats, integrated pet-feeding devices, and built-in boarding steps. Moreover, the innovative A/C filtration system effectively blocks pet hair, ensuring a fresh and clean interior environment.

With a length of 4380mm, the J5 is slightly shorter than its predecessor but still offers generous space. The vehicle is powered by a 1.6T ‘Golden Power’ powertrain delivering 90.7kW/L and a maximum torque of 183Nm/L. Customers will have the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations.

The J5 also boasts a versatile driving experience with six distinct drive modes—Normal, Eco, Sports, Snow, Mud, and Off-road—catering to a variety of driving preferences and conditions.

The interior of the Jaecoo J5 emphasises comfort and practicality, featuring over 30 storage spaces and 480 litres of boot capacity, expandable up to 1180 litres. The second-row seat width reaches an impressive 1320mm, ensuring ample space for passengers.

The cabin incorporates environmentally friendly seat materials that are resistant to scratches and wear, making them easy to maintain. Modern touches such as cabin ambient lighting with a spectrum of 16.8 million colours and a hidden smart instrument cluster help streamline the driving experience.

Aiming to enhance tech-savvy lifestyles, the J5 includes the “Hi Jaecoo” intelligent voice assistant, responding to commands for a seamless and intuitive interface.

For those prioritising quiet rides, the vehicle features double-glazed soundproof glass and a best-in-class 1.45m² panoramic roof, providing an unobstructed view of the sky.

The Jaecoo J5 is also equipped with advanced safety features, boasting L2+ level intelligent driving with 19 driver assist features, and independent suspension that balances off-road capability with on-road comfort.

As Omoda Jaecoo prepares for the imminent launch of the Jaecoo J5 in international markets, anticipation builds for its potential arrival in New Zealand. With its innovative design, pet-friendly features, and advanced technology, the Jaecoo J5 is poised to make a significant impact in the increasingly competitive automotive market.

Omoda Jaecoo continues to demonstrate its commitment to blending style, comfort, and innovation, setting the stage for a new era of driving experiences.
