Based in Zwickau, Saxony, the VW Group plant produces six fully electric models for the likes of Volkswagen, Audi and Cupra. The facility is a leading manufacturer for the Volkswagen Group with one in two VW Group EVs emerging from the plant. The one millionth of which rolled off the line recently.

An ID.3 GTX in Kings Red Metallic was the car tasked with marking the occasion and it will be delivered to its new owner in Bavaria soon enough. This car marks a major milestone for the Zwickau plant after five and a half years since its major change. The facility has survived through some very challenging times for the automotive industry, namely COVID more recently . However, Zwickau was VW Group’s first plant to transition to 100% electric production only.
For a facility that produced combustion vehicles from 1904 all the way to 1990, this was a big transition to make and 2026 will see the location take on the production of even more models. Zwickau has majorly helped Volkswagen become a leader for EVs across Europe with about 26% market share.
