The Audi SQ7 has long been a standout in the full-size luxury SUV segment, and the latest iteration ups the ante with an attractive blend of power, elegance, and cutting-edge technology. With its recent refresh, Audi has not only refined the SQ7’s aesthetics but has also enhanced its versatility and functionality, making it an excellent choice for families and adventure-seekers alike.

From first glance, the new SQ7 captivates with its imposing exterior, measuring over five metres in length. Its robust silhouette and princely stature stand as a statement to Audi’s commitment to performance and luxury. The redesigned front and rear sections enhance its commanding presence, featuring the iconic Audi Singleframe grille with distinctive vertical inlays, which is a hallmark of Audi’s sportier models.

One of the most impressive features of the SQ7 is its state-of-the-art lighting system. The HD Matrix LED headlights, with lasers for added high beam power, offer functionality that adapts to driving conditions, automatically illuminating the road ahead while minimising glare for oncoming traffic. These sophisticated lights not only serve a practical purpose but also contribute to the vehicle’s modern and sleek aesthetic. The addition of digital OLED rear lights, with customizable signatures, allows owners to personalise their SUV’s look, reinforcing Audi’s ethos of individualisation.

Step inside the SQ7, and the high level of craftsmanship becomes immediately apparent. With ample space for up to seven passengers, the interior is designed to cater to both comfort and versatility. Expansive seating arrangements and meticulous attention to detail, including contrasting stitching and a variety of decorative inlays, elevate the entire experience. However, despite its huge size and comfort, I did notice that there was no place for my sunnies – maybe shades are a thing of the past?

That aside, the SQ7 features an advanced infotainment system, seamlessly integrating popular apps such as Spotify and Amazon Music, ensuring that entertainment is always within reach. Regular updates keep the system fresh, enhancing functionality and user experience too.

And then there’s the performance. At the heart of the SQ7 is the formidable 4.0 TFSI V8 engine, delivering a thrilling 373kW and 770 Nm of torque. This powerhouse allows the SQ7 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds, ensuring it can keep pace with sportier rivals (even our previously reviewed RS4) while maintaining the utility expected of a family SUV. The engine’s sophisticated cylinder-on-demand technology not only enhances efficiency (13.2L/100km) but also ensures a smooth power delivery, making daily driving a pleasure.

Equipped with a meticulously designed suspension system, the SQ7 offers a balanced and controlled driving experience. The adaptive air suspension, standard on the SQ7, allows for a ride height adjustment of up to 90mm, ensuring it can tackle varying terrains effortlessly. Whether navigating city streets or venturing off-road, the SQ7 maintains composure and confidence.

The versatility of the Audi SQ7 cannot be overstated. With its ability to transform from a comfortable seven-seat configuration to a cavernous cargo space of up to 2,035 litres, it caters to families on the go as well as those seeking life’s adventures. The optional rear seat features allow for individual adjustments of seat length and angle, accommodating growing children or providing added comfort for adult passengers.

Although made for larger families, my time with the new SQ7 was largely spent without mine on board, as despite its obvious ability to function well at the mundane, it was its performance that I really wanted to experience – and experience it I did. The off the mark speed is impressive, but it felt measured and not extremely gut-wrenching, possibly due to its overall size. But throw in the V8 soundtrack (slightly muted due to its NVH) and it’s a large SUV that fills you with a sense of pre-EV nostalgia.

What’s more, this luxurious giant is more than happy to thrill in the corners, bringing the brand’s renowned AWD technology to near physics-defying levels, such an obviously ‘hefty’ 7-seater shouldn’t stick to the tarmac in the way it does.

Audi has expertly blended power, luxury, and practicality in the new SQ7, establishing itself as a strong contender in the luxury SUV market. Its impressive design, sophisticated technology, and formidable performance make it a must-consider for discerning buyers. Provided you have the ability to afford its $200k+ sticker price, the Audi SQ7 is not just an SUV; it’s a lifestyle statement, embodying elegance, performance, and versatility for those who refuse to compromise.
