Infineon and Qualcomm collaborate on next-generation vehicle computers

Infineon Technologies and Qualcomm Technologies have signed a technology agreement to support the development of central vehicle computers for software-defined vehicles, combining Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride platforms with Infineon’s automotive semiconductor technologies.

The collaboration is intended to help automakers integrate advanced driver assistance and automated driving functions with digital cockpit systems through a central computing architecture.

At the heart of the agreement is a microcontroller based subsystem designed to operate alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride and Ride Flex reference platforms. Built around an Infineon AURIX microcontroller, the subsystem monitors system health, coordinates safety mechanisms and enables predictable real-time control of safety critical functions.

Infineon will also provide OPTIREG integrated circuits for power management, along with a dedicated software package that combines microcontroller firmware with safety and monitoring software tailored to Qualcomm’s platforms. The software is intended to simplify integration for automakers and Tier 1 suppliers, including connectivity with vehicle networks such as Ethernet and CAN.

Additional Infineon technologies included in the Snapdragon Ride ecosystem are BRIGHTLANE automotive Ethernet and USB connectivity solutions, as well as memory that is qualified for the platforms. The companies say the agreement will help streamline development of central vehicle computers capable of supporting high performance computing, in-vehicle artificial intelligence, automated driving and digital cockpit applications.

Infineon will showcase its software-defined vehicle technologies at electronica 2026 in Munich from 10 to 13 November.
