Ducati’s first motocross bike is now a LEGO Technic model with working steering, suspension and a chain-driven engine, priced at $44.99.
Ducati’s first motocross bike now comes in a version you can build at the kitchen table. LEGO has released the LEGO Technic Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory, a 457-piece set for builders aged 10 and up.
The set costs $44.99. It is on sale now through LEGO.com and major retailers, and it is the latest step in a partnership between the two brands.

From Superbike to Dirt Bike
LEGO and Ducati started working together in 2020, beginning with a Technic replica of the Panigale V4 R. This time the subject is very different. Instead of a road-going superbike, the partnership has picked the Desmo450 MX Factory, the motocross bike that marked Ducati’s entry into the discipline.
That choice says something. A Technic model is a small and affordable way to put a new product line in front of a younger audience. Ducati’s off-road programme is still young, so that kind of exposure has obvious value for the brand.
Working Parts, Not Just Looks
Technic sets live or die on their moving parts, and this one has a few. According to LEGO, the model is based directly on the real motorcycle. It includes:
- Working steering at the front end
- A chain-driven engine connected to the rear axle
- Functioning front and rear suspension
In practice, builders can watch drive pass from the engine through the chain to the back wheel. They can also see how the suspension compresses and rebounds. LEGO presents the set as a hands-on way to learn the mechanical principles behind a motorcycle. With 457 pieces, it sits at the approachable end of the Technic range rather than being a weekend-long project.
A Digital Helping Hand
The physical box also comes with a digital option. Through the LEGO Builder app, users can view the model in 3D, rotate it and zoom in on individual details. The app also guides builders through each assembly stage.
For younger builders, or anyone who has ever stared at a printed diagram trying to work out which grey pin goes where, that could be genuinely useful.
Where It Fits in Ducati’s Off-Road Range
The real Desmo450 MX Factory is one of five models in Ducati’s current off-road line-up. The full range covers three disciplines:
- Motocross: Desmo450 MX, Desmo450 MX Factory and Desmo250 MX
- Enduro: Desmo450 EDS, aimed at specialist enduro riding
- Supermotard: Desmo450 SM
Choosing the Factory version, rather than the standard MX, puts the range-topping motocross bike on toy shelves.
Why It Matters
A licensed LEGO set won’t win any motocross races. Still, it shows that Ducati now wants its dirt bikes to share the spotlight with its road machines, which have long been the brand’s focus. Following the Panigale V4 R with a motocross bike tells young fans that Ducati builds off-road machines too.
For most of us, $44.99 is also the cheapest way into Ducati’s off-road range. You just can’t ride this one.
