Lexus has revealed the 2027 GX, a largely carried-over update to its body-on-frame SUV with added rear-seat ventilation, revised colour options and no changes to its twin-turbo V6 powertrain.
Lexus has confirmed details for the 2027 GX, and this is very much an evolution rather than a reinvention. The rugged SUV returns with its existing platform, powertrain and off-road hardware largely untouched, alongside a handful of interior and trim tweaks.
The GX continues in six grades: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail and Overtrail+. Buyers after the brand’s off-road credentials will find the formula largely unchanged, which given the GX’s reputation, is probably no bad thing.
Same Platform, Same Power
Underpinning the GX is the GA-F ladder-frame platform shared with the current LX, built for off-road rigidity without sacrificing on-road manners. A double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension setup carries over, along with available Adaptive Variable Suspension.
Power still comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre V6, producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity reaches up to 9,096 lbs on the Overtrail grade, with other trims rated slightly lower at 9,063 lbs.
Off-Road Hardware Stays Put
Full-time four-wheel drive remains standard, and the Torsen limited-slip centre differential still splits power 50:50 across all grades. Overtrail and Overtrail+ models keep their electronically controlled locking rear differential and standard one-inch suspension lift, pushing ground clearance to 9.84 inches.
Crawl Control and the Multi-Terrain Select system, with modes for sand, mud, rock and deep snow, also carry over unchanged. Lexus lists approach, breakover and departure angles of up to 26, 24 and 21 degrees respectively.
What’s Actually New for 2027
The real news here is modest but worth noting for anyone cross-shopping trims. Luxury, Luxury+ and Overtrail+ grades now get standard ventilated rear outboard seats, a first for the GX lineup.
Lexus has also refreshed its exterior colour palette, adding options like Nori Green Pearl and Nightfall Mica, plus new bi-tone combinations exclusive to Overtrail and Overtrail+ models. Inside, the GX retains its 14-inch touchscreen, available Head-Up Display and optional 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Why It Matters
There’s no new engine, no dramatic styling overhaul, and no shift in strategy here. For a nameplate built on trust rather than novelty, that consistency is arguably the point. The GX’s core appeal, a genuinely capable off-roader wrapped in a comfortable, well-equipped cabin, remains intact. For 2027, Lexus is betting that small comfort upgrades and a broader colour palette are enough to keep the GX competitive without touching what already works.
