Mazda has released spec details of the all-new third-generation CX-5 for New Zealand, bringing with it a striking redesign, upgraded tech, and a premium-on-wheels driving experience that builds on the SUV’s long-standing reputation as a Kiwi favourite. Set to launch in the second half of 2026, the new CX-5 arrives with four sharply distinguished grades (Touring, SP, Homura, and Takami) each carefully curated to deliver more comfort, capability, and connection than ever before.
Since debuting in 2012, the CX-5 has become a cornerstone of Mazda’s lineup, playing a key role in the brand’s global identity through Skyactiv engineering and elegant Kodo design language. Now, in 2026, Mazda has doubled down on what drivers love most: a confident, intuitive drive wrapped in style and sophistication.

Mazda’s latest take on Kodo design marries familiar CX-5 proportions with bolder presence. The sleek Signature Wing grille is now framed by LED headlights featuring a futuristic two-tier DRL signature, while an increased wheelbase amplifies road stance, stability, and cabin space.
Under the bonnet, Mazda has stuck with what works—but made it better. Every grade comes standard with the proven 2.5L Skyactiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 132 kW and 242 Nm via a 6-speed automatic and i-Activ AWD system. Engineers have fine-tuned the powertrain for improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and smoother responses that feel effortlessly in sync with driver inputs.
Mazda’s Mi-Drive adds further control, allowing drivers to toggle between Normal, Sport, and Off-Road modes to tailor power delivery and AWD capability depending on the terrain. Whether cruising SH1 or exploring gravel tracks, the CX-5 is designed to feel confident and composed.
Inside, Mazda has carved out a quiet, calming sanctuary built around intuitive interaction. The cabin is quieter than before, and the Mazda Connect infotainment experience now mirrors the fluidity of a modern smartphone. Depending on the grade, buyers get either a 12.9-inch or a stunning 15.6-inch central display, paired with a high-definition driver display and, in upper trims, a windshield-projected Active Driving Display that keeps eyes focused ahead.

CX-5 Touring – The Smart Starting Point
The Touring sets the tone with a generous tech and comfort package, including 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, privacy glass, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, and heated cloth front seats.
CX-5 SP – A Stylish and Feature-Rich Step Up
The SP builds on Touring by adding 19-inch black-and-machined wheels, gloss black roof rails, and a powered tailgate. Inside, the step up to leatherette, power driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, heated windscreen, and full-colour Active Driving Display makes this grade the successor to the much-loved GSX—and a compelling one at that.
CX-5 Homura – Bold Looks, Premium Ambience
For buyers wanting visual drama, Homura delivers. With black metallic 19-inch wheels, gloss black exterior trims, and—new to CX-5—a panoramic sunroof, this grade feels decidedly premium. Heated rear seats, full leather trim, a power passenger seat, and a rich 12-speaker Bose audio system elevate comfort. Meanwhile, the 360 View Monitor brings next-level visibility, including see-through view and functionality even with the mirrors folded—a first for CX-5.
CX-5 Takami – The Flagship
At the top sits Takami, which enhances Homura with a hands-free powered tailgate, paddle shifters, and a larger 15.6-inch centre display. Unique sport tan leather, ventilated front seats, and Mazda’s Driver Personalisation System (first seen in the CX-90) automatically refine seating and mirror positions to fit each driver perfectly.

With pricing expected soon and pre-sales already open, anticipation for the 2026 Mazda CX-5 is building quickly.
