If the Veyron was the reference point for modern hypercars, then Bugatti’s newly unveiled F.K.P. Hommage is its ultimate eulogy — and a very special one at that. This one-off hyper-GT is a celebration of two decades of engineering audacity wrapped in carbon fiber and aluminum, with more than a little horological flair thrown in for good measure. The name F.K.P. honors Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Karl Piëch, the visionary who brought the Veyron back from the automotive dead and changed the game forever – his contributions to the whole VW group back then are still revered to this day. Built under Bugatti’s Programme Solitaire, the ultra-exclusive coachbuilding division that crafts only one or two bespoke cars each year, this creation asks one simple question: What if Bugatti had never moved on from its most iconic hypercar?
At its heart sits the most potent incarnation of Bugatti’s legendary 8.0-liter quad-turbo W-16. Drawing inspiration from the Chiron Super Sport, this engine churns out incredible ~1176kW (1,578 horsepower, a significant leap over the original Veyron’s 1,001-hp benchmark). This is a meaningful evolution, thanks to its revised cooling, upgraded internals, and an attitude that makes even its 300 mph-plus forebear seem shy in comparison.
Visually, the Hommage feels like the Veyron reincarnated through a modern lens, in perfect Restomod, retrofuture guise, a trend more popular by the day. The iconic two-tone silhouette lives on, but with deeper, richer red paint layered over aluminum undercoats and a black-tinted exposed carbon-fibre rear that gives the car a layered, almost three-dimensional presence. Bugatti even machined the horseshoe grille, an emblem as sacred to the brand as a tourbillon to haute horlogerie, from a solid block of aluminum, giving it genuine sculptural depth.
Inside, this is where a watch lover really perks up. Swap the flats of modern cars for a circular steering wheel that tips its hat to the original Veyron, and feast your eyes on a bespoke center console milled from a single slab of metal. But the real star isn’t mechanical horsepower: a 41 mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon is set into the dashboard. Absolutely more than just a clock, it’s a miniature tour de force of craftsmanship that speaks directly to the soul of any enthusiast who respects the art of timekeeping as much as the art of speed, as it’s too often that the two interests go hand in hand. And, if you’re asking (I know I am), the automatic movement of the clock is wound through a swiveling cradle that moves a few times each hour.
The Hommage isn’t a preview of what’s next for Bugatti, as we know all too well they are trailblazers in other regards, but as a celebration of what was and could have been. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting homage to such an important car to the brand and the automotive landscape of that era. It’s built for meaning, a bespoke manifesto honouring two decades of what the Veyron started and closes that chapter with presence and style.
