Kurupt FM Meets Formula E – Nissan Launches Pop-Up Radio Station From Inside a LEAF

Just when you think the well of ideas has run dry, Nissan rocks up to the Formula E season finale with a plan so brilliantly left-field it deserves a standing ovation: they’re launching a radio station, hosted by a star of Kurupt FM, broadcast entirely from inside a brand-new Nissan LEAF. You did not misread that.

This weekend (July 26-27), as the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship screams to a close in London, the Nissan Formula E team is hitting the airwaves with ‘Garage Radio’. And in what they’re calling a world first, the entire broadcast studio is being shoehorned into the cabin of the all-new, third-generation LEAF, powered entirely by the car’s own battery. No dodgy generators, no trailing extension cords, just pure, unadulterated electric power.

The line-up is as eclectic as the concept itself. Handling the drivetime slot is none other than Steve Stamp, better known as the hopelessly endearing DJ Steves from the BAFTA-winning mockumentary People Just Do Nothing. It’s a genius stroke of casting, blending garage music culture with an actual race team garage. He’ll be joined by seasoned pros, motorsport presenter Derin Adetosoye and Radio 2’s Cloe Lee, ensuring the broadcast doesn’t descend into complete pirate radio chaos.Listeners can expect behind-the-scenes access, with team principal Tommaso Volpe and drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato scheduled to grab the mic, alongside a host of surprise guests.

This isn’t just a random gimmick; it’s a victory party on wheels. The Nissan Formula E Team is heading into the London double-header with the big prize already in the bag. Driver Oliver Rowland clinched the Drivers’ Championship title back in Berlin, making this weekend’s race at the iconic Excel circuit—the world’s only motorsport event with an indoor section—a glorious homecoming celebration for the British champ.

As Tommaso Volpe, the team’s managing director, puts it, “As we head to London… we want the fans to experience the event with us through the launch of Garage Radio.”

The car at the heart of it all is just as newsworthy. The third-generation Nissan LEAF, which is set to begin production at the Sunderland plant, has had a serious glow-up for 2025.It boasts a sleek new design, a cutting-edge Google-based operating system, and an impressive range of 375 miles (603 km) on a single charge. It’s a fitting broadcast booth for a team at the top of its all-electric game.

So, if you want to get closer to the action and listen to some garage bangers while you’re at it, Nissan has you covered. It’s the ultimate fusion of garage music and, well, the garage. We’re tuning in.

Tune into Garage Radio on July 26th and 27th at www.garageradio.london
