Remember the Rimac Nevera? The all-electric hypercar that arrived and basically told every petrol-powered supercar to go sit in the corner? The one that set a mind-boggling 23 performance records in a single day back in 2023? Well, it turns out that was just the warm-up act. Meet the Nevera R, a machine so fast it’s just broken every single one of its predecessor’s records, plus one more for good measure, establishing 24 new world records for face-melting speed. This isn’t just an update; it’s a statement written in scorched rubber and vaporised physics.

The Numbers are Just Silly
Let’s get straight to the V-Box printout because the figures are frankly ludicrous. The big one, the ultimate pub ammo metric, is the 0-400-0 km/h run. The Nevera R dispatched this in a brain-bending 25.79 seconds. That’s a full 4.14 seconds quicker than the “standard” Nevera that already held the record. In the time it takes a normal hot hatch to get to 100km/h, the Nevera R has been to 400km/h and stopped again.
The sprint figures are just as insane. 0-60 mph now takes a neck-snapping 1.66 seconds, while 0-100 km/h is over in just 1.72 seconds. The improvements get bigger as the speeds climb, hitting 300 km/h in a staggering 7.89 seconds, 1.33 seconds faster than before. To top it all off, it set a new record for the fastest EV top speed at 431.45 km/h (268.2 mph). All of this, by the way, was independently verified by Dewesoft, just in case you thought they were exaggerating.

The Secret Sauce: More Aero, More Grip, More Everything
So, how do you make the fastest production car in the world even faster? According to Rimac, it’s through a “comprehensive re-engineering of all major components”. That’s Croatian for “we took it apart and made every single bit better.”
The most obvious change is the new aero package, featuring a massive fixed rear wing and an enlarged diffuser. This isn’t just for show; it generates 15% more downforce while somehow being 10% more slippery through the air. It sticks to the road with new, specially developed Michelin Cup 2 tyres that increase lateral grip and reduce understeer. To make the most of that new rubber, the boffins at Rimac recalibrated their next-generation All-Wheel Torque Vectoring system. This digital brain sends power from the 2,107 hp quad-motor setup to each wheel individually, making a hundred calculations per second to ensure not a single watt of power is wasted.

The Relentless Pursuit of ‘Faster’
You’d think after creating the original Nevera, the team, led by founder Mate Rimac, might have put their feet up. Not a chance. As Mate himself puts it, “When we first introduced Nevera it almost seemed like the pinnacle of hypercar performance had been reached… But now, through relentless innovation, Nevera R goes even faster”. He also notes that it does all this “while still maintaining much of the comfort and practicality that makes the Nevera a real, usable daily car,” a claim we’d love to test on the commute to the Tarmac Life office.

The original Nevera already held the production EV top speed record, set a hillclimb record at Goodwood, and established a new EV lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now, the Nevera R has its sights set on hunting down any other records that dare to remain standing. It’s a testament to the Bugatti Rimac powerhouse, a company that blends Bugatti’s century-old hypercar heritage with Rimac’s bleeding-edge EV innovation.

Of course, this level of performance comes with a certain level of exclusivity. Just 40 units of the Nevera R will be built for the entire world, with a starting price of 2.3 million EUR. For that, you don’t just get a car; you get a piece of history and the most comprehensively record-breaking hypercar ever created. The bar for performance hasn’t just been raised; it’s been launched into a different stratosphere.
