VW announce Wolfsburg to pioneer entry-level EV

Volkswagen is electrifying the road ahead with bold ambitions and a refreshing vision for the future. At a recent works meeting in Wolfsburg, the heart of the German automaker’s operations, employees were treated to an exclusive first look at the brand’s newest game-changer—a compact and affordable entry-level electric vehicle (EV) that promises to redefine accessibility to sustainable mobility. With a projected base price of approximately €20,000, this upcoming model highlights Volkswagen’s commitment to making electric driving an everyday reality for the masses.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, described the unveiling as a historic moment for the brand. “With the results of the negotiations in December, we have embarked on the largest future plan in the history of Volkswagen,” he said. “This will be a key step in making electromobility attractive for everyone—a clear goal of our brand” . Schäfer emphasized that Wolfsburg will remain the cornerstone of both production and innovation, as the automaker pivots into a bold electric era.

Volkswagen plans to showcase the concept car for the new entry-level EV in early March, while its production-ready version will debut in 2027. Joining the ID. 2all small EV family, this compact car will be developed on the cutting-edge Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform. Notably, the ID. 2all production version is set to arrive in dealerships by 2026 with a similarly affordable price point of under €25,000. Together, these models will help cement Volkswagen’s reputation as a leader in affordable electric mobility.

But affordability isn’t the only focus. Wolfsburg will become the heart of Volkswagen’s new all-electric compact class, thanks to advanced production upgrades and the integration of a revolutionary Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). This next-generation architecture promises fully digitalized, highly scalable, and efficient electric vehicle production. Future flagships, such as the electric Golf successor and the high-volume electric T-Roc, will call Wolfsburg home—securing the plant’s historical significance for years to come.

Volkswagen’s ambitious plan, aptly named the ‘Triple A’ strategy—Accelerate, Attack, and Achieve—is steering the company toward its ultimate destination: becoming the global leader in technologically advanced, volume-friendly EV production by 2030. Phase one focuses on strengthening competitiveness and expanding the lineup. Phase two promises a flood of innovation with the release of nine new models by 2027, including the entry-level EV and ID. 2all. Finally, phase three will push Volkswagen to the top of the leaderboard as a trailblazer in sustainable mobility.

Volkswagen’s electric journey has already proven fruitful, with global sales of over 1.35 million ID. family models since 2019 and 383,100 all-electric vehicles sold just last year . Yet Daniela Cavallo, Chairperson of the General and Group Works Council, emphasised that achieving future success will require steadfast collaboration between employees and leadership. “With Wolfsburg as the heart of the Group world, it’s crucial we approach these challenges with determination,” she urged. Together, their continuous innovation will keep the tradition of the iconic Golf alive for decades to come.

Volkswagen’s promise is clear: electrification isn’t just a trend—it’s the future. By combining affordability, cutting-edge technology, and the company’s hallmark quality, they’re building not only cars but also a blueprint to ensure sustainable mobility thrives in every segment of global society. Keep your eyes peeled—the revolution begins now.
