Ahh the scent of exhaust fumes and vapes while being stuck in rush hour traffic. But what do I care, summer’s here, (albeit briefly) and I’m in an open top Merc.

As luck would have it (bad luck that is), the Auckland weather didn’t play ball, so most of my time with this convertible was spent with the roof up. However, a bonus was that despite it claiming to be a 4-seater, the rear seats are a little cramped, so my family decided to leave me to it. So huge space for the driver and indeed, plenty of fun was had.
Along with leisurely drives round the bays, I threw in a couple of spirited rides in the countryside, the CLE lapped up both experiences. This then leads me back to the intro. With the sun joining us for a while, I dropped the top and headed on an errand from the North Shore to Manukau. The SH1 was chocka, but with the Burmester stereo on loud, the slow crawl was more relaxed, it even included nods of approval (or jealousy) from other road goers.
Then the storm clouds appeared and several jealous looks turned more gleeful. However, these were short lived, as at such low speeds, the flick of a button transformed the Cabriolet to a cocooned Coupe – gotta love modern tech.
