Ever looked at your neighbour’s sleek, silent electric SUV and thought, “I wish I could fill that with tools, plasterboard, and a week’s worth of invoices?” Well, it seems someone at Škoda UK had a similar thought, because they’ve just pulled the covers off the Enyaq Cargo, a commercial version of their award-winning electric family-hauler. It’s the automotive equivalent of a mullet: business in the back, comfortable commute in the front.

This isn’t some weekend hack-job where the back seats were unceremoniously ripped out. Škoda UK teamed up with conversion specialists Strongs Plastic Products Ltd to create a proper work vehicle that’s fully compliant with LCV regulations. The result is a seamless integration that swaps space for the kids for a cavernous, purpose-built cargo hold. This load area is crafted from high-strength yet lightweight plastic and separated from the driver’s cabin by a robust bulkhead, ensuring your precious cargo (be it paint tins or power tools) stays where it should.

The idea wasn’t just dreamed up over coffee and koláče. The Enyaq Cargo was born from a specific project for National Grid Energy Distribution (NGED) back in 2024. As one of the UK’s largest EV fleet operators, they needed to decarbonise their service vehicles, and the Enyaq was tapped for the job. NGED was so impressed they’ve already taken delivery of 70 units, with more to follow as they phase out older diesel vans.

So, what are you getting? The Cargo conversion is available on two flavours of the Enyaq: the rear-wheel drive 85 and the all-wheel drive 85x. The standard 85 offers a very respectable WLTP combined range of 359 miles, while the 85x, perfect for those muddy building sites, will still give you 332 miles on a full charge.

When it’s time for a top-up, the van life won’t slow you down. Both models support DC rapid charging, with the 85x capable of gulping down electricity at up to 175 kW. This means a 10-80% charge can be knocked over in about 28 minutes – just enough time for a decent lunch break.

Now for the part that will have fleet managers nodding in approval. While Škoda has a history of its models being adapted for commercial use, this is the first time a fully electric model has been given the treatment. The Enyaq Cargo is available exclusively to fleet customers through Škoda’s retail network. The pricing starts with the base Enyaq Edition 85 at £44,310 OTR, with the conversion adding a reasonable £1,815 + VAT, though the final price will depend on your chosen spec.

So, the Enyaq Cargo is a clever, quiet, and surprisingly capable workhorse that wraps van-like practicality in a comfortable, stylish SUV package. It’s the sensible, zero-emission choice for the modern tradie or delivery service that wants to look sharp while saving on fuel.
