Škoda Electrifies the Past – All-New Favorit Concept

For more than a century, Škoda has been a brand defined by innovation, resilience, and forward-thinking design. In a bold move to honor its storied legacy, Škoda has unveiled the all-new Favorit concept—an electrifying reimagination of the groundbreaking late-1980s classic that helped propel the Czech automaker onto the global stage.

From Iron Curtain Icon to Modern Marvel

The original Favorit was a triumph of form and function, engineered during the challenging days of the Iron Curtain with scant resources. Its clever, practical design and international appeal marked a turning point, catching the attention of industry giants like Volkswagen and laying the foundation for Škoda’s transformation into a major global automotive force.

Fast forward to today, and designer Ljudmil Slavov has been tasked with reawakening this legend. Infused with Škoda’s latest “Modern Solid” design ethos, his concept interprets the Favorit’s minimalist lines for a new era, deliberately forgoing current trends—like the Tech-Deck Face—in favor of referencing the original’s unique spirit.

“It’s a tribute to the Favorit,” Slavov explains. “I carefully studied the original details, aiming to evolve and elevate them. Simplifying an already minimalistic shape into the Modern Solid style was genuinely challenging.” The result? A head-turning concept that is unmistakably modern yet rooted deeply in heritage, steering clear of mere retro imitation.

Futuristic Details with Classic DNA

Among the most striking features are the headlights: the designers have nodded to the 1980s challenge of integrating large, mass-produced Czechoslovakian headlamps—a dilemma that even design house Bertone grappled with. In the new concept, ultra-slim LED strips lie behind semi-transparent covers echoing the original’s size and silhouette. These innovative covers allow the lights to project customizable patterns, inviting owners to make the vehicle their own.

Vision, Not Production: A Statement of Intent

Though this modern Favorit is a concept only, not destined for commercial release, its very existence signals Škoda’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation. As this revival joins a series of reimagined classics—such as the 200 RS, the 1203 van, and the original Voiturette—Škoda is making clear that its future will be as inventive and bold as its past.

A Brand Poised for the Future

As Škoda advances with its “Next Level – Škoda Strategy 2030,” ambitions are sky-high: the brand aims to be among Europe’s top five best-sellers, with an expanded e-model lineup and strategic growth in burgeoning markets like India and North Africa. Over 40,000 global employees, eleven passenger-car series, and a robust presence in over 100 markets all echo the spirit of innovation embodied by the Favorit’s rebirth.

The new Favorit concept is more than just a car—it’s a rolling tribute to resilience, reinvention, and the unbreakable link between past and future. As Škoda continues to spark new life into its icons, it sends a clear message: great design endures, and the boldest journeys are still to come.
