For anyone who thought the Mercedes-AMG compact range wasn’t quite sharp enough out of the box, Mercedes-Benz Australia has just rolled out the perfect solution. Following the popular reception of similar editions on its larger C 43 and GLC 43 models, the brand is now introducing new, performance-focused “Edition R” and “Edition R+” models for its A-Class and CLA line-ups.
These special editions are designed to give the already potent AMG compacts a more assertive, track-inspired look combined with a streamlined list of dynamic equipment. It’s a factory-fresh approach for owners who crave a more distinct and aggressive presence on the road.
Edition R: Sharpening the ’35’ Models
The new Edition R package is available for the AMG A 35 4MATIC Hatch, A 35 4MATIC Sedan, and the CLA 35 4MATIC Coupé. These models already serve as a brilliant entry point to the AMG world, blending daily usability with a serious performance punch from their 2.0-litre turbocharged engines and all-wheel-drive systems.
The Edition R pack amplifies the visual drama significantly. The key addition is the AMG Aerodynamics Package, which includes a larger front splitter, additional flics, and a high-gloss black diffuser blade. The A 35 Hatch gets a proper AMG rear wing, while the A 35 Sedan and CLA 35 Coupé receive a more subtle, yet effective, spoiler. The look is completed with 19-inch black AMG alloy wheels and eye-catching red brake calipers peeking through. Inside, the cabin gets ARTICO/MICROCUT black upholstery with red contrast topstitching and AMG aluminium trim, reminding you you’re in something special.
Edition R+: Maximum Attack for the ’45 S’
For the top-tier, world-beating A 45 S and CLA 45 S models, Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the even more focused Edition R+. These cars are already considered “hyper hatches” and compact super-sedans, boasting handcrafted engines that push out over 400 horsepower and feature sophisticated AWD systems for mind-bending acceleration.
The Edition R+ builds on the Edition R specification with two significant, performance-oriented upgrades. Drivers are treated to AMG Performance Seats, designed to hold you firmly in place during high-G cornering. Furthermore, and for the first time on this model, the CLA 45 S Edition R+ is fitted with a fixed AMG rear wing, giving it a bold, unmistakable motorsport-inspired profile.
