Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty company, has announced the consignment of a rare and historically significant vehicle, the 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa, for its inaugural Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Auction on the shores of Lake Como this May. The vehicle, chassis number 004 C, is considered one of the most original early Ferrari models in existence and is estimated to fetch between €5.5 million and €7.5 million at auction. Having never been publicly offered for sale, the car’s provenance includes participation in notable races such as the 1948 Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia in both 1948 and 1949, as well as other Formula Two events and hill climbs.

Noted for its enduring originality, the Spyder Corsa boasts Ferrari Classiche White Book certification, featuring its original body, chassis, 2.0-liter V12 engine, and five-speed racing gearbox. Its history includes five decades of ownership by a single family from 1965 to 2015, and it has earned prestigious accolades such as a class award at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and multiple FCA Platinum Awards. The vehicle’s enduring legacy has also been marked by its appearances at iconic automotive events like Pebble Beach’s Casa Ferrari in 2019 and 2022, solidifying it as a foundational example of Ferrari’s heritage.
This European auction will be Broad Arrow’s first in partnership with BMW AG, aligning with its role as the official auction partner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an esteemed event within the global collector car scene.
