Chery Group has blasted past the two-million-vehicle sales mark in just the first nine months of 2025, setting a new record for the rapidly ascending brand. It’s a narrative about smart strategy, relentless innovation, and a keen understanding of what modern drivers want from their vehicles. For car enthusiasts down under, it’s a clear signal that one of the world’s most dynamic automakers is making its presence felt.
The figures themselves are staggering. Chery Group shifted a colossal 2,007,768 vehicles in the first three quarters of the year, representing a 14.5% jump from the previous year. September alone saw the company sell over 280,000 units. What’s particularly impressive is the brand’s international prowess. Confirming its status as China’s leading passenger vehicle exporter, Chery shipped 936,428 vehicles overseas year-to-date. To put that in perspective, that’s equivalent to a new Chery vehicle landing in a foreign market every 25 seconds. This global push has seen sales more than double in key European markets, demonstrating a wide-reaching appeal.
At the heart of this success is Chery’s powerful pivot to electrification. Sales of their New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) have skyrocketed, surging an incredible 77.1% year-to-date to reach 587,545 units. This explosive growth has cemented Chery’s position among the top five NEV manufacturers in the highly competitive Chinese market. With over three-quarters of new models launched this year being electrified, including the highly anticipated TIGGO 7, 8, and 9 Super Hybrid (CSH) models now beginning their global rollout, the brand is clearly committed to a sustainable future.
But Chery’s momentum in 2025 goes far beyond the sales charts. The company made a massive splash in the financial world with its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, which marked the largest automotive IPO of 2025. This financial clout is backed by critical acclaim, with the group rocketing up the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list to rank 233rd as the fastest-rising automaker worldwide. Their commitment to cutting-edge technology is also on full display, from achieving 51 five-star safety ratings across its vehicle range to its robotics division creating “Mornine,” a world-first humanoid robot fully certified under stringent EU standards.
According to Lucas Harris, COO of Chery Australia, this success is no accident. He notes that the brand’s ability to deliver “smart, sustainable and competitively priced” vehicles is “resonating deeply with customers”. This is reflected locally, where “growing trust and excitement” saw the Tiggo 4 become the 6th highest-selling vehicle in Australia last month.

As Chery accelerates towards its vision of becoming a “globally trusted leader in intelligent and sustainable mobility,” it’s clear their journey is one that drivers in New Zealand and across the globe will be watching with intense interest. The question is no longer if Chery will be a major player, but what it will do next.
