Curtain Call for Lexus RC and RC-F

2025 Marks the Final Lap for the V8-Powered Coupe

The Lexus RC coupe, a striking sports car renowned for its V8 prowess, is bidding farewell after nearly a decade of production. Lexus announced that 2025 would mark the final model year for this vehicle, with the RC F model, powered by its iconic 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, receiving a special “Final Edition” send-off. As a last hurrah, this edition includes exclusive features like carbon fibre components for the active rear wing, roof, and spoilers, as well as a specially assembled engine and rear differential. Distinctive red brake calipers enhance the rear-wheel drive RC 300 and 350 F Sport models, while the RC F Final Edition garners 19-inch BBS wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres, and an interior decked out in red and black leather with Ultrasuede finishes.

Despite its undeniable charm, the Lexus RC struggled to maintain competitiveness in its segment. Tipping the scales at approximately 3,900 pounds, it lagged behind rivals in performance while its price tag—exceeding $100,000 in its most extreme forms—limited its appeal. Lexus sold just 1,854 RC models in 2024, a modest improvement over the previous year but a negligible figure compared to the brand’s SUV sales, such as the RX, which sold 118,636 units in the same timeframe.

The RC’s departure leaves the IS 500 as the last Lexus offering featuring the legendary 5.0-litre V8, a reminder of a bygone era of naturally aspirated performance vehicles. As enthusiasts bid a sorrowful goodbye, the swan song of the RC coupe highlights both the evolution of performance cars and the inevitable dominance of SUVs in modern automotive markets.
