Indian SUV giant Mahindra & Mahindra has just thrown down the gauntlet, unveiling a bold new vision for its future that extends far beyond the Indian subcontinent. In a major announcement, the brand revealed its “Global Vision 2027,” showcasing a revolutionary new platform and four striking SUV concepts that are set to hit the market starting in 2027.

This isn’t just a minor model refresh; it’s a fundamental strategic shift. At the heart of this new era is the NU_IQ platform, a modular, multi-energy architecture designed to be the foundation for Mahindra’s next generation of SUVs. The name says it all – this platform is engineered to accommodate multiple powertrain types, including traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) and likely electric variants, giving Mahindra immense flexibility to cater to different global market demands.

The NU_IQ platform promises to resolve many traditional automotive paradoxes. It’s engineered to deliver a “no compromise” experience, featuring a flat-form architecture that makes a flat-floor ICE SUV a reality. This will allow for incredibly spacious cabins and class-leading boot space, all while maintaining the high, command-style seating position and superior driving dynamics that SUV buyers love. The platform is also lightweight, designed to meet top-tier safety standards, and can be configured for Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and crucially for global expansion, both Left-Hand Drive (LHD) and Right-Hand Drive (RHD) markets.

R Velusamy, President – Automotive Business (Designate) at Mahindra, called NU_IQ “a strategic blueprint for the future of Mahindra SUVs globally,” emphasizing that it “marks a bold step and the start of a new era that frees customers from compromises.”

These future SUVs will be wrapped in the next evolution of Mahindra’s “HEARTCORE” design philosophy. Pratap Bose, the brand’s Chief Design & Creative Officer, explained that the new design language is based on the theme “Opposites Attract,” juxtaposing contrasting elements to create an expressive and emotional bond between the driver and the vehicle. This new direction was revealed through four distinct concepts, developed jointly by Mahindra’s design studios in Mumbai, India, and Banbury, UK.

The four concepts, which are confirmed for production, are:
- Vision.S: Embodying “Sporty Solidity.”
- Vision.T and Vision.
- SXT: Representing a “Born Iconic” spirit.
- Vision.X: Showcasing “Sculptural Athleticism.”
Each concept carves out a unique personality, but all are intended to signal a move towards a more premium, globally competitive product. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, stated that the concepts “offer a bold preview of what’s to come” and will “disrupt the white spaces in the automotive industry in India and internationally.”

For markets like New Zealand and Australia, where Mahindra has been steadily building its presence, this is significant news. The commitment to RHD production, advanced platforms, and world-class design indicates a serious intention to compete head-on with established players. With production slated to begin in 2027, all eyes will be on Mahindra as it brings this ambitious vision to reality.
