Silk has been pulled off the 2025 Lexus RZ

Lexus has unveiled the new 2025 RZ, a luxury battery electric SUV that sets a higher standard in electrification, performance, and driver engagement. Showcased during its world premiere in Brussels, Belgium, the new RZ introduces significant technological advancements, including a groundbreaking steer-by-wire system, enhanced battery electric vehicle (BEV) system, and the addition of the high-powered F SPORT model.

Cutting-edge Innovations: Steer-by-Wire and Enhanced BEV System

The Lexus RZ is the first model to feature the steer-by-wire system, designed to deliver smooth, intuitive operation and improve responsiveness while reducing vibrations. This innovative system enhances vehicle handling, especially on winding roads, aligning with Lexus’ commitment to the Lexus Driving Signature—a blend of comfort, confidence, and control.

Further improvements to the BEV system have been made to maximize both efficiency and performance. The RZ now incorporates a new 77.0 kWh lithium-ion battery, extending the driving range by up to 100 km. Enhanced motor output, inverter efficiency, and water-cooled technology result in improved acceleration and top-speed capabilities. The inclusion of a 22 kW AC onboard charger and a battery pre-conditioning system shortens charging times significantly.

DIRECT4 Technology for Dynamic Performance

The updated DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system ensures balanced and precise power distribution under varying driving conditions. For example, during cornering, the system adjusts torque between the front and rear axles (from 80:20 to 0:100 ratios), contributing to linear steering, cornering stability, and driver confidence. The Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) enhances stability, comfort, and emergency-handling capabilities, emphasising safety as much as engagement.

Introducing the RZ 550e F SPORT

For consumers seeking a sportier driving experience, Lexus debuts the RZ 550e F SPORT. This top-tier model is powered by a robust 408 DIN hp (300 kW) motor, supported by a retuned suspension for added dynamism. The F SPORT also introduces Lexus’ first Interactive Manual Drive system, which mimics the feel of manual gear shifting with an eight-speed virtual setup. Using paddle shifters, drivers can engage with the system as if operating a conventional manual transmission, complete with engine sounds and a rev limiter for immersion.

Luxury Meets Sustainability

The new RZ stands out for its refined interior design and advanced features. Noise and vibration-reduction enhancements, such as soundproofing materials and a new rear-seat floor silencer, ensure a serene cabin environment. Sustainability is a priority as well, with trim materials like Ultrasuede, made from 30% plant-based resources, offering a modern expression of luxury.

Ambient lighting with dynamic shadow effects and a dimmable panoramic roof further contribute to the vehicle’s premium feel, catering to comfort and personalisation.

A Step Toward Carbon Neutrality

Since its launch in 2023, the Lexus RZ has been a pivotal model in the brand’s Lexus Electrified vision, aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. Leveraging its expertise in hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems, Lexus continues to set benchmarks for sustainability in the luxury market.

Availability

The new Lexus RZ is expected to hit the New Zealand market in late 2025. More detailed specifications and pricing are anticipated closer to its release date.
