A Porsche ‘Sculpture’ sells for $400,000!

SMH! So, get this: a tubular wireframe “car” that won’t start, can’t drive, and doesn’t even have cupholders just sold for a jaw-dropping £201,000. Yep, that’s triple the price of an actual, driveable 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo, which is frankly insulted by this comparison. The sculpture, a glorious metal skeleton of the legendary Porsche 934, was whipped up by Benedict Radcliffe and apparently hits all the right notes for wealthy car (or art?) geeks who want a big conversation piece.

This oversized art project racked up 218 bids and over 6,000 views in a seven-day slugfest on the Collecting Cars platform. After internationally gallivanting through Milan, Beijing, and Shanghai like some kind of metal Kardashian, it was snatched up by a collector in Asia. But, hey, it does pay homage to the iconic Porsche 934 Jägermeister racing car—because nothing says “cult icon” like orange livery and a bucket of schnapps.

Collecting Cars, smugly patting itself on the back, called it “proof of the breadth of automobilia” and celebrated being the place where absurd, exorbitantly priced car-ish things can find their forever homes. Meanwhile, the actual 1989 Porsche Turbo with just 24,966 miles on the clock sold for £180,500 last year—let that sink in.

So, next time you’re working on your mancave, think big. Really big. Like, life-size-wireframe-sculpture-of-a-race-car big. Because apparently, you’re not cool unless you’ve got £201K lying around for some gloriously curated metal art with massive Porsche vibes.

It looks great, but What the Actual….
