The excitement builds as Lexus unveils the pricing and details for its much-anticipated high-performance model, the LBX MORIZO RR, developed in collaboration with Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Corporation’s Chairman, affectionately known as Morizo. With the release of the LBX MORIZO RR, Lexus is set to add a thrilling new dimension to the LBX range in New Zealand.
The LBX MORIZO RR, where “RR” stands for Rookie Racing, embodies Toyoda’s passion for cars and performance. “Morizo is a person who loves cars, not just Toyota and Lexus but all cars. Morizo is fun,” says Akio Toyoda, reflecting the playful spirit behind the vehicle’s development.
This compact luxury car is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre inline three-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 206 kW of power and 390 Nm of torque. With an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system and a Direct Shift eight-speed automatic transmission, the LBX MORIZO RR promises exhilarating performance and driving pleasure.

“Morizo” is not just a driver; he embodies the essence of fun and dynamic interaction with automobiles. Toyoda explains, “To me, smaller cars are more fun to drive. This LBX is a special edition with more high performance.” The car has been meticulously engineered for performance, with enhancements to its body, suspension, brakes, and tires, utilizing cutting-edge aerodynamics developed in conjunction with Lexus Pathfinder Air Racing.
Andrew Davis, Vice President of Lexus New Zealand, emphasized that the LBX MORIZO RR is designed to be a ‘partner’ for true automotive enthusiasts. “It’s compact luxury for casual driving. When enthusiasts want to enjoy a spirited drive, the car delivers dynamic performance that doesn’t disappoint,” he said.
Notably, the LBX MORIZO RR is the embodiment of casual luxury, combining exhilarating performance with the comfort and ease of a weekend car, as Toyoda frequently enjoys testing it on his beloved Fuji Speedway.
The LBX MORIZO RR promises innovation across its design and performance. It boasts a wider frame than the hybrid LBX, with extended body-colored wheel arches housing stunning 19-inch Super Gloss Black Metallic alloy wheels. Additionally, the car sits slightly lower, providing a greater sense of unity between driver and vehicle.
Lexus engineers have applied additional body rigidity enhancements, which include 469 spot welds and underbody bracing, ensuring superior performance during sports driving. The innovative Direct Shift-8AT transmission offers smooth acceleration while providing an emotional sound that enhances the driving experience.
Inside, the MORIZO RR showcases luxurious touches such as Semi-Aniline Leather sports seats, aluminum pedals, and a state-of-the-art 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system. With a range of two-tone exterior color options and distinct styling elements, the car promises to attract attention both on and off the road.
The recommended retail price (RRP) for the Lexus LBX MORIZO RR is set at $89,900 plus on-road costs. This price includes a four-year unlimited-kilometer new vehicle warranty, four-year full maintenance service plan, and a four-year Lexus Plus AA roadside assistance package.
Expected to arrive in New Zealand by February 2025, enthusiasts are encouraged to register their interest with local Lexus dealerships. The recently launched hybrid LBX has seen considerable success, with over 165 units sold since its introduction in April, setting an optimistic stage for the arrival of the MORIZO RR.
As Lexus continues to refine and innovate, the LBX MORIZO RR stands poised to deliver not just a car, but an adventure for true driving aficionados.
