Ford has unveiled the Ranger Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) at the prestigious IAA TRANSPORTATION event in Germany. This model signifies a pivotal moment in the evolution of the pickup segment, bringing together the rugged capability of the Ranger with cutting-edge hybrid technology.

The Ranger PHEV is engineered to satisfy both utilitarian needs and eco-conscious desires. It features an impressive 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine paired with a 75kW electric motor and an 11.8kWh (usable) battery. Together, they boost the renowned towing and off-road capabilities that Ranger customers have come to love, while also offering an electric-only driving experience for a targeted range of over 45 km.

This combination not only enhances the Ranger’s performance on the worksite but also makes it an attractive choice for everyday family life. With the Ranger PHEV, users can expect a seamless transition between electric and petrol power, ensuring that whether you’re hauling heavy loads or embarking on weekend adventures, you’re covered.

One of the standout features of the Ranger PHEV is Pro Power Onboard, a game-changer for off-grid enthusiasts and professionals alike. This system allows users to run tools and appliances directly from the truck’s onboard battery, offering up to a mighty 6.9kW of power—enough to keep essential equipment running without the need for a cumbersome generator. Imagine powering your tools on a job site or keeping your campsite lit and comfortable all night!
The introduction of a Modular Hybrid Transmission (MHT) elevates the driving experience by integrating the electric motor seamlessly between the engine and transmission. This allows the Ranger PHEV to engage in hybrid driving effortlessly, adapting to the driver’s needs. Charging the vehicle is also convenient—using a standard household plug, the Ranger PHEV can be fully charged overnight, making it perfect for both work and leisure activities.
Leading the charge is the Ranger PHEV’s limited-edition Stormtrak launch model. This variant combines rugged utility with exclusive design elements, marking its uniqueness in the Ranger lineup.

Among its notable features are: Chill Grey paint exclusive to Stormtrak, along with an optional Agate Black finish for those seeking a bold aesthetic. 18-inch alloy wheels and a honeycomb grille, which together project an intimidating presence on and off the road.
Matrix LED headlights, a Flexible Rack System, and advanced technologies like Pro Trailer Backup Assist to enhance towing and maneuverability. An upscale interior complete with a B&O sound system and distinctive finishing touches that elevate the cabin experience.

According to Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand, “The Ranger PHEV delivers the benefits of electrification together with the hard-working performance that has built Ranger a loyal customer base in New Zealand and Australia.” He added that this model is designed to be a capable workhorse, marrying advanced technology with the practical demands of daily life.
