The Lamborghini Miura, a proper old school bedroom poster car and one that inspired so many more supercars in the following 50 something years. Arguably, one of the most revolutionary cars in motoring history. The Miura challenged conventional thinking with its centrally located engine and breakneck performance. Not to forget its jaw dropping good looks, earning it a well deserved place in most peoples ‘prettiest cars ever’ list.
Officially unveiled in 1971 at Bertone’s stand at that years Geneva Motor Show, public eyes glanced over the Miura SV for the very first time. Interestingly, the Countach concept was also unveiled at this show. The story is that Lambo’s passionate chief engineers used their 5 years of experience to fettle with the Miura and generally improve it. In doing so, they created a car that could do 290kph in 1971!
The 4 litre V12 now produced 385bhp which the car could handle thanks to its four new Weber carburettors. Similarly, the gearbox now had a new lubrication system allowing for better shifting under pressure. The SV also had stiffer suspension, wider 255mm tires and a new design for the wheels. Speaking of which, most of these were optioned with gold wheels like the car above.
However, the most significant change was the loss of those signature Miura eyelashes. There was no reason for this change apart from the fact that Ferruccio Lamborghini wanted to speed up the production process. Funnily enough, Ferrucio’s Miura SV was the only one to have the signature eyelashes!
Only 150 of these Miura SVs were ever made making it Lamborghini’s most sought after production car ever. Production was ceased in 1973.
