In the motoring world, there are few manufacturers that have the kind of history that Alfa Romeo has. The brand’s rich heritage lives on in its newer models as was proved by the limited run Giulia GTA that sold out earlier this year. And now the latest chapter of that unique Alfa aesthetic is found in the form of the Giulia & Stelvio GT Junior Special Series.
The Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior was an absolute icon of the ‘swinging sixties’ with nearly 100,000 units being sold during its 10 year production run which finally ended in 1976. Based on the Giulia Sprint GT, the 1300 combined a Bertone body with an 89 bhp engine and offered sportscar ownership to a new crowd of people. After all, Alfa’s slogan at the time was “Una vittoria al giorno, con una vettura per tutti i giorni” or “a victory a day in your everyday car”.
It was the embodiment of the brand’s philosophies of stylistic beauty, lightness and power. Those values live on today in the new ‘GT Junior’ Limited Edition of the Giulia and Stelvio.
Based on the Veloce trim levels of the Giulia and Stelvio, the exclusive exterior colour is called ‘Lipari Ochre’ and harks back to Alfa’s history of daring hues. The seats are embroidered with the ‘GT Junior’ name while the dash also gets the same along with a 1300 GT Junior motif stitched into it. The five hole lightweight alloy wheels are also unique to this special edition with the Stelvio receiving them in 21 inches while the Giulia gets 19 inch wheels.
The ‘GT Junior’ Special Series cars are also available in either turbo diesel or turbo petrol variants. Both the Stelvio and Giulia come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Alfa’s Q4 four wheel drive system as well. Rear wheel drive is also optional on the Giulia.
